LO3 Personal Review (MAGAZINE)
LO3: Oblivion 10/10
All I can say is thank you Bethesda Game studio for this totally amazing action role-playing video game, The Elder Scrolls just keeps getting better and better. If you haven't played Oblivion yet, I suggest putting this article down, playing it and then you can agree with me later. Oblivion explodes with adventure and action, which you can lose yourself in for hours. Exploring the highly impressive fantasy world of Nirn: fulfilling quests, travelling for hours, it is truly a remarkable action filled game. Tamriel is, in this game beautiful and unique making it more visually appealing and interactive. Straight away you are introduced to the different aspects, allowing you to adapt to the game. You get to design your character and can see the game from your character's perspective or behind-the-back perceptive (third person). The narrative explodes with an action filled quest defeating the Daedra. It is basically every gamers dream game, with the insane gameplay murdering, fighting, stealing, blood, visually gruesome you can't disagree with me on this one!
Well let's just say there isn't any escape from action, straight away you are thrown into a cellar clueless to why you are there. The medieval mise-en-scene grabs you straight away. Emperor Uriel Septim V11, and The Blades approach you, as they are on there way to flee Imperial City due to the Emperor being targeted after asiasons have just killed his three sons, and the cellar you have been thrown in has a secret escape. What a coincidence! The Emperor reconsigned you from a dream he has previously had, luckily saving you. Paranoid about what the Emperor has told you, you follow them into the sewers where the assassins have been hiding. Before the Emperor and all but one of The Blades is killed he gives you a quest to find J and give him the Amulet of Kings. Good luck with this quest because it is HUGE but AMAZING! Fire, goblins, monsters and even dragon are all included when fulfilling this quest. Sorry I dont want to give too much away... so I'll let you find out yourself? Just prepare yourself because I Bethesda have by far out done themselves, and it gets better. Whilst conquering the main quest, there are hundreds of side quest you can complete, which are full of adventure, action and fantasy. You can join groups such as the brotherhood, thieves guild and fighters guild.
Well Bethesda have seriously kept me entertained for my life, as I did forget to mention the game never ends. Bethesda have definitely created a huge rivalry between competitors, such as Bioware, although this company has produced some brilliant games and gives you an interesting story, Bethesda wins with giving you an open world letting you interact with just about anything. You can be the good person in Oblivion, the bad (joining the Brotherhood or thieves Guild) or both. Bethesda lets you chose who you want to be in the game. Bethesda also gives more variety when it comes to their games. When it comes to weapons and you have done X amount of damage you have a variety of options to improve. Examples are leveling up to (improving skills) to earn a better sword. Earning money to buy a new one and even learning enchanting to to add magic damage. Oblivion can be played on many platforms, Microsoft windows mobile phone, PlaySTation 3 and Xbox 360, which brings a variety so many people can play this totally impressive game.
It is really hard for me to pick out a negative for this game, because I am crazily addictive to the highly compelling narrative and gameplay. The only insult I could possibly give this game, and just to say this is VERY picky, is how easy it is to fulfil a quest due to the compass. Although the element of adventure creates the adrenaline to the game, the compass does help and makes quest easier to do. It's almost a push to help you, but sometimes I like the difficulty of a quest and the adventure to be on my own; however that is just a personal opinion and I am sure that a lot of users will actually like the aid offered by the game. Maybe for a new Elder Scroll game you could play by another character's perspective not only yours. That way you could see a new aspect to the open world, which could change the way you play. However none of these ideas or insults out shines the incredibility to this game.
All I can do is really compliment Oblivion and thank Bethesda for this mind blowing game. The flavour of characters throughout the game reflects the genre (fantasy) and the development of choosing a human race or anthropomorphic adds to the open world aspect. You know from this review that I recommended this game to anyone, even if you don't like games. It is that amazing. Especially to gamers who typically enjoy open world gameplay and hybrid genres. Now all I can say is pick up the controller and let the game take you away. Good luck.

EVOLVE REVIEW
Evolve has a asymmetrical structure to it. The plot/storyline of this game is a battle between the human hunters and the monsters trying to kill them. It is set in a distant future, where humans have the ability to leave the world and explore other planets and galaxies. When the humans arrive on the planet Shear, they start to industrialise it and make it similar to Earth, but when they met the resistancev of the planets (aliens) they release they have the power to destroy everything the humans built.

Overall I personally prefer the online review. It is more vibrant and you get to see the visuals, which reflects the genres of the game without the reviewer even saying. LO1- Just Dance review
Just Dance 2015 7/10
Just dance falls into the genre of party, the reason for this being is due to the fact it is a multiplayer game that you can play with family and friends. Stylistic conventions that run throughout the game just dance is neon colours that help make it visual and interactive. It is a very energetic game, which when played with family and friends brings an element of enjoyment, and when played alone can be a fun way to exercise! I personally find the game a great way to have fun as well as create a sweat!
There isn't a narrative to Just Dance, you are instantly immersed into the game and have to Just Dance. The reason the game is so successful is the simplicity of it, so I think it is a positive thing that it doesn't have a narrative. Where other games find success through purely the narrative, Just Dance doesn't need a plot, it's all about the gameplay. This also makes it so much more fascinating and unique from other games as you are more enticed with the visuals of the game, as well as the genre.
Just dance was developed by Ubisoft Paris and Ubisoft Milan and published by Ubisoft. Just dance 2015 introduced the ability for players to challenge other players online, as well as submitting clips of themselves playing for inclusion into compliation videos featured in-game, all through social networking features in the series. Another feature that was brought to the Just dance 2015 game was to use the smartphone as a controller with a companion app. The multiplayer functionality, motion detection and pop-oriented soundtrack really reflects the teenage target audience.
When it comes to characters in Just dance they aren't characters you play or compete with, they are there to guide you through each dance. You mimic the character's movement to get more points in order to win the rounds. The characters suit really well with the whole concept of the game, such as the genre and gameplay. The characters are designed in neon outlines, which although a negative about the game is the fact it is mainly new pop music and doesn't have much older pop/dance music, the bright neon colours reflect the 80s, which sides with the target audience of being family, it is a mix culture. As well the bright neon colours reflect the genre of party as it is very vibrant and house music like, which all help make the visuals of the game grasping.
The GamePlay for Just Dance is to judge your ability to correspond with the dance moves the characters are doing in time to the music, to gain more points for yourself. It is very similar to the previous Just dance games been released; however this one is more exciting and adventurous as there is new features such as dance battle routines, expansions to the game's Just sweat mode, unlock-able bonus routines for songs, and a "puppet master" mode exclusive to the Wii U version, which allows a player to use Wii U's controller to serve as a "Master" to manipulate the routine and visuals. Only difficult ratings have been left, effort ratings and "On Fire" have been dropped. Just dance has also added a dance quest, six missions for players on each song that can be completed. By completing these you get net points called Mojo points. "dancers cards" can also be created by players, which are can display their favorite songs, best scores, challenges, and more. Personal leader boards are also available for the Wii version of the game.
As Just dance is family and friend oriented the target audience is suitable for any age group. You could categorize it for a female audience as stereotypically they would play the game in spare time, males would be for family or friends. The colour and visuals also reinforce a more female audience, with bright neon colours, very hip hop girly dances to suit the music as well.
Overall the game Just dance brings an energetic vibe. I really found myself interacting with the game, due to the visuals and because I am a very competitive person. The music that goes along with the game is very upbeat and jazzy which allows you to lose yourself within the game; however a variety of different song choices such as more music from previous times and different genres of music could also be an improvement. By doing this the game could reach out to a wider audience, which means more sells.

LO1- The Elder Scroll IV- Oblivion review
Oblivion 10/10
Oblivion explodes with adventure and action, which you can lose yourself in for hours. Exploring the highly impressive fantasy world of Nirn, fulfilling quests, travelling for hours, it is truly a remarkable action filled game. Tamriel is, in this game beautiful and unique making it more visual and interactive. Straight away you are introduced to the different aspects of play, allowing you to adapt to the game. You get to design your character and can see the game from your characters perspective or behind-the-back perceptive (third person). The narrative explodes with an action filled quest defeating the Daedra.
Oblivion has a mix of genres, which is called a hybrid. The genres Oblivion include are action, adventure and fantasy. Stylistic conventions that reinforce the genre action is the fighting enemies, such as magical creatures, rats, wolf, rare citizens, and also the mysterious creates inside the oblivion gates such as Daedra Lord. Adventure is also featured in oblivion as there is camps, forms, mountains, caves and more that you can find and explore out side of the village, introducing new items and quests. The fantasy involved in Oblivion is the world that you love in, Tamriel. You can see different worlds when you look up to the sky as well the mythical creatures featured in the game help to reinforce the genre fantasy.
The story of Elder scrolls IV- Oblivion is that the Emperor Uriel Septim VII is being targeted by Daedra after murdering his three sons. The Emperor and his guards "The blades" are escaping the imperial city by going into the cellar you have been placed in, as it has a secret passage way to the sewers. Apparently you have been seen in the Emperors dream and he trusts you to go and escape with him and the blades away from the assassins; however the Emperor knows he is about to die and asks you to take the Amulet of Kings to a man named Jauffre the grand master of the Blades,at Weynon Priory. After this the Emperor is killed by the assassins along with some of the Blades, you then have to escape the sewers and explore Cyrodill. As there is no longer a heir to the throne it has broken a covenant, opening oblivion gates around Tamriel, putting it in harm. Jauffre explains that there is only one person who can stop Daedra and the oblivion gates, Martin who is a royal bloodline, so he can retake the throne and relight the Dragonflies. Martin is a priest to the city Kvatch which Daedra has already destroyed leaving a few survivors. The only problem is a huge oblivion gate blocks the city Kvatch and you have to enter the planes of oblivion from the inside to vanish it, so that you can get into the city Kvatch and talk to Martin. After closing the oblivion gate and talking to Martin you find yourself travelling back to Weynon Priory to see that it has been invaded by assassins and that the Amulet of Kings has been stolen. martin is sent to to Cloud Ruler Temple, which is run by the Blades. You are entered into their ranks and are sent to help find the amulet and the information you find reveals that the assassins are apart of the Mythical Dawn, a cult dedicated to the worshiping of Mehrunes Dagon, the Daedric Prince of Destruction. You have a mission to infiltrate the secreting meeting place of cult to hopefully reiterate the amulet. A portal has been opened by the Mythic Dawn books.
Production process of Oblivion was produced by the media companies UBISOFT and Bethesda soft works a Zeni Media company. It was developed by Bethesda Game Studio and published by Bethesda soft works and the Take-Two Interactive subsidiary, 2K games. It is fourth addition to The Elder Scrolls, before Oblivion was The Elder Scrolls 111 and after Oblivion The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. Oblivion was first produced for the platforms Microsoft Windows and Xbox 360 in March 2006. It was then released in May 2006 as a mobile version. in March 2007 a PlayStation version was produced and The Elder Scroll IV: Oblivion Game of the Year Edition was released in 2007 for the platforms Microsoft Windows, X-box 360 and PlayStation 3. Bethesda used an improved Havok physic engine, high dynamic range lighting, procedural content generation tools that allowed developers to quickly create detailed terrains, and the Radiant A.I. system. This helped enable non-player characters to make choices and engage in behaviours more complex than in past titles. The game features fully voiced NPCs. By November 2011 Oblivion had sold over 3.5 million copies.
With your character you get to design it yourself. This is designing features such as race, age, eye colour, hair style + colour and more. You can earn, buy and steal clothing, armour and jewellery which you can wear around the game. There is light and heavy armour available as well as suit Armour. Some jewellery in the game are powerful as they can help your strength and willpower. Other characters are designed by the game play. For example The Blades wear a suited Armour, which is sliver and yellow. The assassins where a full body length red clock to disguise themselves where as the Daedric's where a heavy red and silver Armour suit, with a red devilish helmet. As oblivion is set in a different world local women wear maiden dresses, where as royal or upper class women would wear a heavy more glamours dress. Men would wear dungarees and a shirt, where as the royals or upper class men would wear thick clothing and clocks with fur. Oblivion has a interactive game play, it is a role-playing game. The main quest involved in the game goes alongside the Narrative, defeating the Daedric Lord and helping to stop oblivion gates opening across Tamriel. It is open-ended game play. Along with the narrative main quest, you can follow side-quests, travel the depths of Cyrodill, become parts of memberships such as the fighter guide, blood brotherhood and thieves guild, dispatch monsters and advanced your character. Oblivion can be played as 1st person role or a third person role.
The PGI for Oblivion is rated 15 as it contains strong violence. It is stereotypical aimed to a male audience with the violent content and the action filled genres. This is reflected by the interactive gameplay, that includes mainly violence and adventure.
The Elder Scrolls IV- Oblivion has been released on platforms, Microsoft Windows, Xbox 360, PlayStation and a mobile version was also released. In March 2006 the game was produced on the platforms Microsoft Windows and Xbox 360. The mobile version was released in May 2006. It was then produced on the PlayStation 3 in March 2007. A special package Bethesda released for this game was The Elder Scroll IV-Oblivion game of the year which was produced for the platforms Microsoft Windows, Xbox 360 and PlayStation. The reason why Bethesda produced the game on a variety of platforms is because The Elder Scrolls are very successful games so by spreading the game across platforms helps to bring in a wider audience.

LO1- Mario Kart review
Mario Kart Wii 9/10
I always love competition between my friends and family, and this game by far does the trick.
The genre of Mario Kart is family, racing action. Stylistic conventions that run through the game that reinforce the genres are the fact it is a multiplayer friendly game enabling families/ friends to compete against each other. The genre racing is simply shown in the game through the narrative, the whole aim of the Mario Kart is to win races and stop other from coming in front of you; this is where action becomes involved. Going into boxes and getting given a weapon for example red box or a advantage such as the rocket, to get in a higher places and to slow other down. It makes the game funny, enjoyable and gives the players adrenaline.
The whole aim in Mario Kart is to win the championship races in order to get bronze, silver and gold trophies and even get CBA, Star, Star Star and Star Star Star rankings. The levels are separated into 4 championships- 50cc (Karts only) 100cc (Bikes only) 150cc (Karts and Bikes) 200cc- (Mirror), which you start on the easier level (50cc) and end on the hardest level (200cc). This makes the gameplay interesting and intriguing simultaneously. There are 8 levels (shown by symbols: Mushroom, Shell, Banna, Star, Lighting, Leaf, and ) on each championships which all included 4 different tracks. On each level you earn a trophy and the better you do the more you can unlock. However what makes Mario Kart even more exciting is you can do competitions such as coin or balloons, which you are spilt into two teams red and blue (your choice) and you can also just do normal races when playing multiplayer, which adds to the adrenalin.
Process Production
There are a variety of characters in Mario Kart, which you can either chose to be or race against. The characters are mostly memorable characters, but higher definition and quality. New characters are added to the game, but this just adds and shows the development of Mario and how it had adapted to the modern era. The colour scheme is still bright and bursting with flavour, memorable characters such as Mario and Luigi are in red and green, which is important as it is an recognition of the game. A personal element is brought into Mario Kart. When achievements are made in the gameplay, you can unlock new characters and machines, One thing you can unlock is Mii, which is part of the Wii. This means Mii characters you have made can be chosen to race, which is an brilliant Idea as it is your own creativity.
The main gameplay in Mario Kart is winning the championships, which is done on single player. You starts on championship 50cc, which is Karts only. Then you go onto one of the 8 symbols and play there 4 race tracks. Mushroom is the easiest level and Lighting is the hardest. Depending on what places you come in the races and your totally score you will get ranked. If overall you have come in third place you will get bronze, second you will get silver and first you will get gold; however when you come first you will get ranked C, B, A, STAR, STAR STAR or STAR STAR STAR. This is also judge on how fast you complete the course and how you defend yourself when being attacked. The same goes for 100cc (bikes only) 150cc (both) and Mirror, which is the hardest championship. When leveling up you unlock more efficient and better equipment and characters. If you are a competitive and determined person, this is the perfect game.
As Mario Kart has been around for many generation it is appealing to a wide range of people. Generally focusing on this game it is mainly targeted to a teenage male audience, due to the gameplay, However as it is family oriented both genders and any age group will find this game really appealing and enjoyable. Mario fans will indeed find this game so amusing as the adrenalin and the competitiveness that is brought from this game gives a push to do the best.
Mario Kart Wii can only be played on the Wii. As the console does state
LO1- Crash bandicoot review
Crash Bandicoot 8/10
Crash Bandicoot is a mind blowing a video game franchise of platform video games. With it's interactive gameplay and memorable characters, Crash Bandicoot allows you to lose yourself in a childhood loveable game. The genre of Crash Bandicoot is Platform, Racing and action. Stylistic conventions which signify the genres are the gameplay, as in the levels there is a lot of action involved, which is suitable for the target audience. The genre suits well with the target audience as it active and creates a lot of adrenalin with the genres race and action. As it is more suited to males, the action involved within the game will be suitable and successful. The narrative of the game is to do different challenges and levels to save Tawna (Crash's girlfriend, who also happens to be a Bandicoot!) and defeat the henchmen and Dr Neo Cortex. The narrative to this game would bring a female audience to the game, as they've brought different sex characters. However it isn't just a case of completing levels, each level is filled and packed with action/fighting, lots of adventure is involved as well as entertainment, which all reflect the genres and stylistic conversations.
Crash Bandicoot is a memorable character as it was very popular when first created on the PS1. He is bright orange which brings an element of colour, which helps to make it visual and more enjoyable to the target audience. The whole visuals of the game is bright and colourful which makes it more interactive. Other characters involved in Crash bandicoot are Tawna, who is also a bright orange colour- which brings an element of happiness to the game. She has bright blonde hair and wears a flower, this is where a female audience can be brought in and intrigued as it is very girly. Dr Neo Cortex is what you would stereotypically think a mad scientist would look like. He always has a facial expression of a frown, a huge head and obviously a white lab coat. This reflects a younger audience as the colours are bright and light, which makes the game more vibrant instead of dark and gloomy.
Crash Bandicoot is not PEGI age rating certified, this means it gains a wider audience and we know this as it sold over 3.9 million copies just in the US. The narrative and game play is more aimed to a younger male audience. The genres reflected throughout the game would stereotypically attract and intrigue a male audience as it is action and adventure. As well the interactive gameplay, which is where the genres are reflected, signifies how the game is more aimed towards the male audience.
Crash Bandicoot is very expanded when it comes to platform technology. The game can be played on the Game Boy Advance, GameCube, Nintendo DS, PlaySTation 1/2/3, PlaySTation Portable, Wii, Xbox, Xbox 360 and the IOS. This helps to make the game so successful as a variety of platforms means a larger audience, which means more sales. 19980 - PlayStation, 2007 - PlayStation Network, Developer - Naughty Dog, producer/publisher - Universal Interactive Studios and Sony Computer Entertainment. Original release date in Europe - December 5th 1998
LO1- Sneak review
Sneak 6/10
Sneak is a very useful and interactive game when it comes to the age range (target audience); however for me I found this game very simple, I personally enjoy a challenge.
The narrative of Sneak is a game full of mythical creatures/beasties that live in your device. The beasties try and eat the bait you chose at the start of the game. As you run away from the bait, the beasties appear, but only if you're quiet. The aim of the game is to be as quite as possible so that you can tap the screen and take a photograph of it. The main aim of the game is to get 5 photographs of all five beasties that live in the app. However it isn't that easy, any sound made will get picked up and the beastie will run away before you can tap the screen. As you go up levels the sensitivity of your device increases, so that it is easier for a beastie to hear you, making the game harder.
The developer of Sneak is Made in Me Ltd and is categories as entertainment. It was released on the Apple store on the 1st of December 2012 as the version 0.01. It then got updated to 0.02 on 2nd January 2013, sensitivity was increased. On the 19th January 2013 memory was made sustainable so that the app would stop crashing, which updated the version to 0.03. 0.04 was updated on the 18th April 2013, the updates included sharping the beasties hearing as well as enabling them to see you too. They also added in a feature of the beasties being able to see or hear you, or even both which is called "super sneaky" (requires a front facing camera). On the 1st October 2013 0.500 version was created with the updates washing and bathing the beasties for their IOS 7 debut. Currently the version of Sneak is on 0.600 which was updated on the 17th February 2014 with the update a lower sensitivity on the "easy" setting so that it is possible to win. The compatibility of Sneak requires iOS 5.0 or later. Compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch.
The characters are very colourful and bright, makes it attractive and striking for the audience. The animated characters are memorable and unusual, intriguing the player yo play more. The audio is very bubbly which allows the audience to connect with the characters. As well catching out the monsters and having them jump out at you gives the player Adrenalin. However doesn't give them nightmares, as in general the characters are funny looking and appealing making them not come across as frightening. As the main story line in the game is to scare and sneak up on the monsters, the characters work well with conventions of the genre as they are designed to look like the bad guys in the game; however are very suitable to the target audience age range.
The main challenge is to be very "sneaky", so that you can tap the screen and take a photograph of the beasties before they hear you. As the levels go up the sensitivity becomes greater, making it easier for the beasties to hear you letting them escape. This engages the player as it makes the game more active and additive.
Sneak is aimed to children 5 and under. The indication in the game that shows the game is for this age range, is the game play as it is very simple and understandable. As well the colours and characters involved in the game are very bright and visual creating a friendly element to the game which helps to make it more enjoyable to a younger audience.
The game Sneak is available on iOS apple store, so this means it is available on the iPhone, iPad and iPod. The feature "super sneaky" is required for devices with front cameras.

Pan European Games Industry, PEGI is the regulatory bodies for the gaming universe. There are good reasons why companies used PEGI as it shows what the age rating is for games or films. It makes sure the game is as a suitable age rating so that say if a parent was going to buy there child modern war fare, they could see if it is suitable enough. Most games have PEGI as if the game is violent and a young child is playing it, many complaints and bad reviews will be made putting a bad name on the company.
